This route will take you across footpaths and by-ways from Norton Malreward to Pensford, with the opportunity to see and walk underneath the viaduct. There is minimal road walking on this route, just a couple of crossings. When we walked in January we didn’t see any livestock, but having walked a few of these fields in warmer months, I know there will be cows at certain times of the year. There is a fairly steep climb back up Settle Hill on the return leg, and a steep decent down a stoney by-way on the way down but other than this it isn’t too difficult. The route is around 3.5 miles and took us about an hour and a half. When it is back open, The Rising Sun Pub looks like a great place to stop as a halfway point and grab some lunch. The garden backs onto the river and a little waterfall so it would be lovely in summer.
